Outgoing Karen Country Club Chairman, Jinaro Kibet, hosted the members of the prestigious Karen Country Club to the 2012 Chairman’s Prize, which gave the members a weekend of golf, bowling, squash and tennis to remember as he marked the end of his two year term.

Despite the heavy rains, over 300 members of the Karen Country Club braved the wet conditions to participate in the various disciplines.

In the Bowls section, the team of Andrew Jones, Christina Cole and Mark Charleson emerged victorious beating the team of Roger Wilson, Barbara Charteson and Benson Kariuki to second place.

In Squash, the team of Brett Sievwright and Tracey Kyffin were the winners whilst the team of Bob Kyffin and Steve Humphreys finished in second place.

The Tennis section was presented with a cheque of Sh25, 000 that will go towards the construction of tennis courts in Kibera. Receiving the donation from Jinaro Kibet, Lynnett Van Kaufmann from the Tennis section said the donation will go a long way in ensuring the children of Kibera experience the game of tennis.

In the golf section, veteran golfer, Charles Lofty, posted a strong 39-points to emerge the Overall Winner of the 2012 Chairman’s Prize. Lofty was quick off the blocks, making seven pars on the opening nine holes, dropping only two shots on the par-three fifth and par-three seventh holes for a 2-over par gross score for 20 stable ford points. On the back nine, he made quick amends, posting birdies on the par-four 11th and par-four 12th, but he uncharacteristically dropped shots on the 13th, 15th, 16th and 18th holes  for another 2-over par gross score for 19 stable ford points and a round total of 39 points. Charles Gacheru was the Men Winner also on 39 points. Gacheru went through the front nine on a level gross score of 23 points but faltered on the back nine, managing an average 16-points for a total of 39 points. General (RTD) Peter Waweru was the Gross Winner with an excellent score of 4-over par 76 and Immediate former Chairman of the club, Raphael Nzomo was the best amongst the former Chairmen with a score of 36 points. Congratulating the winners, Chairman Jinaro Kibet said he had received tremendous support from all club sections during his two year term. “The last two years of service to the Karen Country Club have been most satisfying, but I would not have done it without the support of all the members,”  Kibet said. “Today, I am humbled by the support extended by members from all sections of the club, from Bowling, to Squash, Tennis and the Golfing section. My congratulations to the winners and let me particularly thank the Tennis section for undertaking a most worthy project, that of building tennis courts for the less fortunate in Kibera.”

Engineer George Muturi was Men Runner Up with 38 points beating Allan Gachukia on count-back. John Simba was Men Fourth with 37 points. The lady winner was Jacintah Wambugu with 38 points, beating Doreen Kairuthi and lady captain Margaret Thande on count-back. The nines went to Rosemary Njogu and F. Schulter. Susan Kasinga claimed the longest drive prize for the ladies whilst Anthony Gacheru was the longest among the men. Ezekiel Owuor claimed the nearest to the pin prize. canada goose femme occasion canada goose femme occasion
