Kenya Power has stepped up sponsorship of the 2012 Diani Beach Masters, as the title sponsor. Diani Beach Masters is one of the top amateur golf championships in the country, held annually at the Leisure Golf Club in Diani, South Coast.

Speaking during the presentation of the Company’s Shs.3 million sponsorship cheque, Kenya Power’s Chief Manager in charge of Distribution, Eng. Benson Muriithi said the sponsorship was geared towards promoting sports tourism in Kenya.

“As part of Kenya’s corporate citizenry, Kenya Power has an obligation to support events that have far reaching results for the communities in which we operate and the Country as a whole. The Diani Beach Masters is an event that goes a long way in promoting sports tourism into the South Coast area and the potential for this event to grow and benefit businesses in Diani is enormous,” Eng. Muriithi said.

“We will also be using this opportunity to have an open day in Ukunda where we will meet our clients and engage them with regard to our services”, he added.

Responding to Kenya Power, Leisure Lodge Resort Director, Mr. Steve Mainda said that Kenya Power Diani Beach Masters 2012 signaled a new dawn for the championship. “This event has gone through a few cycles, from the Pro-Am days in the late 90’s; to when it became a full Kenya Golf Union Golfer of the Year event; to where we are now:- seeking to promote sports tourism in the South coast region,” Mr. Mainda added.

According to Mr. Mainda, the 2012 edition of the Kenya Power Diani Beach Masters marks the beginning the most exciting cycle and he  assured its title sponsor, Kenya Power and the golfers that will participate that the event can only get bigger and better.

The Kenya Power Diani Beach Masters will take place from the 5th to 7th October 2012 at Leisure Golf Club. “We expect golfers to arrive on Friday the 5th of October when we will have the Longest Drive competition and welcome cocktails,” Mr. Mainda added.

The first round will be played on Saturday the 6th of October, closing with the famous Gala Dinner by the beach. The final round will be played on Sunday morning, followed by the prize giving ceremony shortly thereafter, at 2.30 p.m.
